Salary: £100,000 OTE

A new and exciting opportunity for a Hospital Director to join a well staffed independent acute mental healthcare provider rated as ‘good’ by CQC.

Job Purpose

The Hospital Director will provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for an acute mental health hospital and will ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care, regulatory compliance and the overall performance of the facility in alignment with the organisation’s mission, vision, and values.

Essential Skills / Experience

Master’s degree or higher in Mental Health, Psychology, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or related field.
Significant leadership experience in acute mental health or psychiatric settings.
Knowledge of mental health law, safeguarding, crisis intervention, and clinical governance.
Strong understanding of budget management, risk assessment, and performance improvement.
Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

Develop and implement long-term strategies for growth, clinical excellence, and patient care improvement.
Align hospital objectives with national mental health care priorities and regulations.
Lead and contribute to innovation in service delivery, crisis care models, and trauma-informed practices.
Clinical & Operational Oversight

Ensure delivery of effective, evidence-based treatment for acute mental health conditions.
Monitor and improve performance metrics (e.g., occupancy, readmission rates, safety incidents).
Oversee 24/7 operations including inpatient units, psychiatric emergency services, and transitional services.
Staff Leadership and Development

Lead a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, therapists, and administrative staff.
Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous professional development.
Drive recruitment, retention, and staff well-being strategies.
Financial & Resource Management

Develop and manage budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and cost-effective service delivery.
Monitor expenditures, secure funding where applicable, and lead contract negotiations.
Compliance & Quality Assurance

Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory standards (e.g., CQC, CMS, Joint Commission).
Oversee internal audits, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
Lead preparation for accreditation reviews and inspections.
Stakeholder Engagement

Represent the hospital to external stakeholders including government agencies, partner providers, and the community.
Foster partnerships with local healthcare providers, police, crisis teams, and advocacy organizations.
Act as a media spokesperson when necessary.
